All news- Heritage Office Publishes the Register of Protected Sites
The Register of Protected Sites opens with eighteen entries across the six principal sites of the Network: six scheduled monuments, eight listed buildings, three conservation areas and one registered landscape.
- Heritage Office Opens Proposals for Designation and Announces Survey of Buildings and Monuments
Anyone may propose a site, building or monument for protection from Monday 7 September 2026. A Network-wide survey of buildings and monuments begins at Central Exchange on 14 September and reaches every principal site by December.
- Heritage Office Publishes First Heritage at Risk Register and Arrangements for Consent
Five of the eighteen protected sites are recorded as at risk, two of them at the highest priority. Applications for consent for works to protected sites are accepted from 7 September 2026, with decision periods of eight or thirteen weeks.
About the Office
The Heritage Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network is responsible for the sites, buildings and monuments of historic, architectural or archaeological interest across the Velocity Interoperability Network.
It keeps the Register of Protected Sites, assesses proposals for designation, decides applications for consent for works, records the condition of sites at risk and is carrying out the first survey of buildings and monuments on a common standard.

Forthcoming
First decisions and the completed survey
The first decisions on proposals received in September are expected in December 2026, the survey reaches Meridian Court in the same month, and the first quarterly statistical release follows in October 2026. Each will be announced in the Newsroom.
